How to Delete and Replace a Gmail Account on an Android Smartphone

If you're looking to delete an existing Gmail account from your Android smartphone and set up a new one, follow the steps below. Please note that deleting a Gmail account will result in losing access to all associated data, including emails, contacts, and calendar events.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the Gmail app installed on your Android device.
  • Make sure you have access to the email address and password for both the old and new accounts.

Deleting an Existing Gmail Account

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Tap on Accounts or Users and accounts, depending on your device's specific version of Android.
  3. Locate and tap on the account you wish to delete.
  4. Tap on Remove account.
  5. Confirm account deletion by tapping on OK or Delete Account.
  6. If prompted, enter your Gmail account password and tap on Next, then tap on Yes, Delete Account.

Setting Up a New Gmail Account

  1. Open the Gmail app on your Android device.
  2. Tap on Create account.
  3. Enter your first and last name, desired email address, password, and other required information.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the account setup process.
  5. Once you have successfully set up your new Gmail account, add any necessary accounts, such as Google Drive or Google Calendar.

Now that you've deleted your old Gmail account and set up a new one, you can start enjoying the benefits of your freshly configured email service on your Android smartphone.
