Pantone Color Institute, color consulting company, annually determines which colors will become a trend. This color will then become the main color of the design theme and mood that year.

In 2018, Pantone chooses ultra-violet colors. The color is regarded as a dramatic, provocative, and wise color. Ultra-violet can communicate authenticity, and think ahead.

"That color helps us think into the future," said Leatrice Eisman, Pantone executive director as quoted by Time, Wednesday (20/12/2017).

By 2017, Pantone says that the color is about reassurance in the social and political sphere. While in 2018, a representative color should be able to reflect ambition and forward thinking.

"From exploration of new technologies and larger galaxies, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection. Ultra-violet can explain things that have not happened yet, "Eisman 

The selection of ultra-violet colors is actually inspired also by pop culture like Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie who chose purple as their color. In addition, the color is also inspired from nature.

"The unlimited night sky is a symbol of things that can happen, and keep inspiring. How amazing it is to be able to realize the deep meaning of each color, "Eisman said.
